Social media and insurance


In the years BT (Before Tinder), social media was seen as a way for people to communicate: sharing statuses, anecdotes and photos – with a good sprinkling of bands on MySpace looking to promote themselves and their music. Businesses soon realised the potential of engaging with their stakeholders on social media channels and today you’ll be hard-pressed to find a consumer name that isn’t on Twitter and Facebook. But there’s more – LinkedIn, Google+, Tumblr, Vine, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube are also potential channels as well as the likes of Sina Weibo in China. With such an enormous choice of platforms to choose from, deciding which ones your business wants to engage with is the most crucial decision before placing a blog or tweet with the social community.

Public relations, closer to insurance than it may seem

It is not hard to see why public relations firms have been buoyant in recent years as public opinion and the media has rounded on corporates and individuals that have fallen foul of the rules. The value of public relations is never more visible than during a period of crisis and public relations consultants in the financial services industry have really earned their spurs and their retainers in recent years.  Although insurance has not been at the epicentre of these storms it has largely maintained its engagement of key audiences through public relations.

FWD PR’s Monte Carlo packing list


It’s that time of year again! As the British summer fades into a rather damp autumn, insurance and reinsurance executives get a chance to top up their tans at the Monte Carlo Reinsurance Rendez-Vous, the start of the year’s reinsurance price-setting process. With the proceedings due to kick off in Monaco this Sunday, the foreign exchanges along Leadenhall Street have been full of underwriters tutting at the poor sterling-euro exchange rate while comparing hotel and flight bookings.
